I have a black belt (2nd dan) of Aikido. Why do I have such skill? I had belonged to Aikido club in my university. Why did I entered to Aikido club? I wanted to have skill to be able to kill a man. Why did I thought so? I had read many hard-boiled novels when I was high school student. I thought there were many danger in city life. So, I wanted to have the art of defence. Well, in spite of the motive, I got a black belt (1st dan) one and half years later. I was so glad to be holder of a rank. Those days, I thought "I'm strong!" And I also wanted to test my own skill in actual fighting. In short, I wanted to have a chance of street fight. Fortunately or not, I had never had it. One year later from it, I got 2nd dan. It brought about a change in my state of mind. First, I recognized that I was strong. Not "think" but "recognize". And I didn't want to fight. I really recognized that I was strong. So testing my skill was needless for me. And I began to think "If I make a street fight filled with Dutch courage, I really may kill a man...". I learned to appreciate fear of killing a man after getting skills to kill a man. These days, many troubles of minors using knives are reported in Japan. I think it is not wrong that minors having knives. Because they have no skill to defend themselves. But I want them to know what will be happened in using knives. If a minor have a knife, he have to have a courage to never use it. |
