The left picture is a portrait of Mr. Komatsu. He took charge of our class of high school.
Students called him "Chestnut Head", a character in "Dr. Slump".

Long long time ago, there was a shoes maker in Europe. It sent two employees to a village in Africa to have a marketing research.

Two employees, one of them was Amuro and the other was Sam, had stayed two weeks in the village. And they wrote each reports and sent them to their company.

Sam wrote;
"I was so surprised! There is no man wearing shoes. I think no one needs shoes here."

Amuro wrote;
"I was so surprised! There is no man wearing shoes. I think it possible that we can sell a lot of shoes here!"

Do you think which report was adopted by the company? I think it is no use to say. Amuro became the chief manager of branch office in Africa.

The first time I heard this episode was about 10 years ago. The principal of high school told this to students.
What did I think about that?
I wrote diary below;

I think Amuro was wrong. About 150 years ago, there was nobody that had athlete's feet in Japan. After Meiji-Ishin, Japanese people became wearing European style shoes.

Japan has high temperature and high humidity climate. European style shoes caused athlete's foot to Japanese.

Africa has some parts also have high temperature and high humidity climate. If Athlete's foot spread in there... Amuro had caused it.

A national culture has been grown by its place, climate, people, or so on. I think it is wrong that a power force its culture to the other culture.

> If a man can speak his own national language correctly,
> he also has the key of prison.

Above sentence is a part of "The Last Class". These days, I really understand what this means.
